 *Ancient Egypt encompasses one of the most exciting periods in World History.  Poverty
Living standards in Egypt are low by international standards. Despite widespread poverty, however, uneven development has led to the emergence of an affluent class that controls most of the country's wealth. The wealthy send their children to private schools and to universities abroad. Yet not far from these affluent neighborhoods, a significant number of poor Egyptians live in squalor, with poor and overcrowded housing, limited food supply, and inadequate access to clean water, good quality health care, or education.

The country has an unusual geographical and cultural unity that has given the Egyptian people a strong sense of identity and a pride in their heritage as descendants of humankind's earliest civilized community.Within the long sweep of Egyptian history, certain events have been crucial to the development of Egyptian society and culture. Power was centralized in the hands of a god-king, and, thus, Egypt became the first organized society.
